Common Name(s):

Newfoundland shark, sharp-nosed shark, white shark.

Description:

The Atlantic Sharpnose is brownish to olive-gray in color with a white belly and they sometime have small whitish spots on its sides. It has a very slender body and a long and flattened snout. Their dorsal and caudal fins have a black edge with a white trailing edge on the pectoral fin. The outer margin of their teeth is notched and they have furrows in lips at the corners of the mouth.

Feeding Habits:

Atlantic Sharpnose feed on small fish and crustaceans.

Range:

The Atlantic Sharpnose is found throughout Florida; the Caribbean type in the Bahamas and Caribbean Islands.

Habitat:

The Atlantic Sharpnose are coastal and even found in surf, shallow flats and streams. They are often in schools.

Typical Size:

The average sizes range from 2 to a little over 3 feet in length and an average top weight of 12-13 pounds.
