Description:

The upper part of the body is generally blue- green and the lower part is silvery-white. The bluefish has a pointed snout and a large, oblique mouth with a protruding lower jaw.

Feeding Habits:

Bluefish juveniles feed shrimp, small lobsters, crabs and larvae. Adults will feed on smaller schooling fish.

Range:

Bluefish are native to both the American and European-African coasts of the Atlantic Ocean.

Habitat:

Bluefish inhabit both inshore and offshore areas of coastal regions, with the young fish called "snappers" often frequent estuaries and river mouths.

Typical Size:

The bluefish can grow to a size of almost 3 feet in length and nearly 20 pounds as a mature adult fish.
