Description:

Although not related, the Lady Fish resembles a juvenile Tarpon and has a terminal mouth, a slender body, small scales, the last dorsal ray is not elongated (unlike the Tarpon) and its head is small and pointed.

Feeding Habits:

They primarily feed on small fish, such as glass minnows and mullet, with crustaceans rounding out the rest of their diet.

Range:

Ladyfish range from Cape Cod south to Brazil including Bermuda, the Gulf of Mexico and the Caribbean. It is uncommon north of Chesapeake Bay.

Habitat:

Lady Fish are usually found inshore in bays and estuaries. Occasionally they will enters freshwater in tidal pools and canals. They will often form large schools and harasses bait at the surface.

Typical Size:

Ladyfish are common to the 3-5 pound range and a foot in length.
