Description: |
Leatherjacks are a slender fish, have a compressed shape with pointed head and large jaws for its size. Leather skin is green above and silvery on the sides. Sharp spines on dorsal and anal fins can administer very painful puncture wounds. |

Smaller fish and crustaceans. |
Range: |
Leatherjacks can be found from the New England coast in the North to the Gulf of Mexico in the south. |
Habitat: |
Found inshore, usually in turbid waters along sandy beaches, or in bays and inlets. Enters estuaries and fresh water. Forms large and fast moving schools and will often leap out of the water. Juveniles may float at the surface with tail bent and head down |
