Description:

The Sandbar Shark ranges in color from gray to brown above and whitish below. It has a broadly rounded and short snout and the upper and lower teeth are finely serrated. Distinctive features are the wide, triangular dorsal and pectoral fins - with the dorsal situated almost directly above the pectoral.

Feeding Habits:

Sandbars feed chiefly near the bottom on fish and shellfish.

Range:

Sandbar sharks are found on all Florida coasts, less common in the Bahamas. They are rare in most of the Caribbean.

Habitat:

Sandbar Sharks are mostly found inshore and around beaches. They can also be found in channels and other deeper areas ranging from 60 to 200 feet.

Typical Size:

Sandbar Sharks average 50 to100 pounds, are common to 6 feet in length and can exceed 250 pounds.
