Description: |
The Sand Perch has a slender, cylindrical shape, with a large mouth and wide tail. Their overall color is tan with brown vertical bars or blotches, and full-length horizontal lines of blue and orange. |
Feeding Habits: |
Sand perch feed on small fish and crustaceans, mainly shrimp. |
Range: |
They are typically found on both coasts of Florida, north to south. Apparently the Sand Perch is not found in the Bahamas. |
Habitat: |
Sand Perch are found from bays and shorelines to well offshore over a variety of bottoms. They seem to prefer rather open bottom with patches of grass or scattered rock, and they also like deep channels. |
Typical Size: |
Sand Perch are usually less than a foot in length and average 6-8 inches. |
