Description:

The Scalloped Hammerhead is light brown to grayish above, shading to white on the underside. They are elongated and compressed and their head is greatly expanded laterally with eyes at each end of the lateral expansion. They have large eyes that are separated from their nostril by a distance equal to the diameter of the eye. The pectoral fin has a dark tip, but on underside only.

Feeding Habits:

Scalloped Hammerheads feed mainly on fish, squid, and stingrays.

Range:

Scalloped Hammerheads are found from New Jersey south to South Brazil, including Gulf of Mexico and Caribbean.

Habitat:

Scalloped Hammerheads prefer the open ocean, mostly, but commonly ventures close to the beaches and sometimes into large bays.

Typical Size:

Scalloped Hammerheads averages around 100 pounds, but can reach 200 or more.
