Description:

The spotted seatrout is dark gray or green above, with sky blue tinges shading to silvery and white below; numerous distinct round black spots on back, extending to the dorsal fins and tail; black margin on posterior of tail; no barbels; no scales on the soft dorsal fin; one or two prominent canine teeth usually present at tip of upper jaw.

Feeding Habits:

Spotted seatrout are opportunistic carnivores whose choice of prey depends on the size of the fish. Smaller seatrout feed mainly on crustaceans such as shrimp. Medium-sized spotted seatrout add small fish to their diet, and larger seatrout primarily feed

Range:

Found up and down along both Coasts.

Habitat:

Inshore and near shore over grass and sandy bottoms.

Typical Size:

Common to 4 pounds on the West Coast but grow larger on East Coast.
