Description: |
The Swordspine Snook is yellowish-green to brown-green overall and silvery on the belly. They have a long sharp spine on their anal fin and when it is folded against the body it extends past the beginning of the caudal (tail) fin. |
Feeding Habits: |
Swordspine snook eat mostly small fish and shrimp, though squid forms a small part of their diet. They are carnivorous predators, ambushing prey when they come into range. |
Range: |
The Swordspine is also the most rare of Florida's Snook species, probably occurring only in protected canals and streams of extreme South Florida. It also is found in the Caribbean. |
Habitat: |
The Swordspine Snook occur in inshore estuarine habitats from south Florida to as far north on east coast as St. Lucie River. |
