Description:

The Tarpon Snook has a compressed boy with a prominent black lateral line extending through the tail. The forward portion of the head is upturned, which somewhat resembles that of the Tarpon. This is the only snook with 7 anal fin rays, other snooks have 6.

Feeding Habits:

The Tarpon Snook feeds on small fish and larger crustaceans.

Range:

Large Caribbean Islands, the Gulf of Mexico, and the Florida coast.

Habitat:

The Tarpon Snook prefers mangrove areas, canals, bridge and dock pilings. They are frequently found in fresh water.

Typical Size:

They are usually less than 1 pound and 12 inches in length, but they may reach up to 20 inches.
