The Tarpon Snook has a compressed boy with a prominent black lateral line extending through the tail. The forward portion of the head is upturned, which somewhat resembles that of the Tarpon. This is the only snook with 7 anal fin rays, other snooks have 6. |

Large Caribbean Islands, the Gulf of Mexico, and the Florida coast. |

The Tarpon Snook prefers mangrove areas, canals, bridge and dock pilings. They are frequently found in fresh water. |
