Description:

The Yellowmouth Grouper’s overall color is tan or brown with darker spots, or a network of spots, fused into lines. They have a distinct yellow wash behind the jaws, yellow around the eyes and the outer edges of their fins are also yellowish. The Yellowmouth undergoes sex reversal. The young individuals are female, becoming male, as they get older.

Feeding Habits:

The Yellowmouth Grouper feeds on small fish and crustaceans.

Range:

The Yellowmouth is pretty much limited to southern Florida.

Habitat:

Yellomouth are found offshore and prefer reefs and rocks.

Typical Size:

Yellowmouth are commonly seen up to 15 pounds.

22 pounds, 8 ounces (IGFA)
